Hotspots are a convenient way to distribute your Internet access across multiple devices, but did you know that you can also use your PC to share your connection? If your device is running Windows 11, you can turn it into a mobile hotspot in a matter of seconds. Learn why laptop hotspots are useful and how you can utilize this setting on your Windows PC.

When would you need to use your laptop as a hotspot?

A laptop hotspot can come in handy in many situations. If you’re using a hard-wired Internet connection, for instance, and you want to share that connection wirelessly with other devices. Laptop hotspots are also convenient when you need to pay for Internet access. For example, some airlines require you to pay for Internet access on their flights, which can only be applied on one device. By activating your laptop’s hotspot, you may be able and allowed to share the connection to your phone or tablet after purchasing your Wi-Fi.

Laptops with 5G connection

Some laptops, like the Surface Pro 9, can come with 5G to provide users with Internet access from most anywhere. If your laptop comes with 5G, that connection can be shared with others as well. Sharing your own 5G connection is a good way to ensure that the devices you are connecting are equipped with fast Internet.

How to turn on your mobile hotspot in Windows 11

Windows 11 makes it easy to share your Internet connection with others. Simply select Start and go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot.

Once you open Mobile hotspot, you’ll see an option for sharing your Internet connection with other devices. Toggle to on to begin sharing. Use the network name and network password at the bottom of the page to connect other devices to your Internet. If you wish to edit the network name or password, you can do so by selecting Edit.
