About
Dong Xie is a principal researcher at Microsoft Research Data System Group. Prior to MSR, he was an assistant professor at Penn State University and received his Ph.D. in computer science at University of Utah. He has broad research interest in data management and computer systems, in particular addressing scalability and cost-efficiency problems of modern data systems.
His past and ongoing research spans in multiple subareas of data systems including storage/indexing, database on modern hardware, approximate query processing, spatio-temporal data processing, data privacy and system security. He received SIGMOD best paper award in 2025, the Google Research Scholar Award in 2023, Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship in 2018, and SoCC best paper runner-up in 2019.
