Chad Atalla

About

Chad Atalla (they/them) is an Applied Scientist on the Sociotechnical Alignment Center (STAC) team at Microsoft Research NYC. They hold degrees in computer science from UCSD and joined Microsoft as an Applied Scientist building language intelligence features in MSAI, before moving to MSR to help start STAC. There, they contribute to foundational research on AI evaluation and measurement while applying it to practical Responsible AI solutions for teams across the company. These days Chad’s work centers on the science of AI evaluation: building high-validity measurement instruments for the capabilities, benefits, and risks of generative AI systems, so that claims about those systems can actually be trusted.
