5 AI prompts for creators to build a content engine
A lot of good ideas never go anywhere. They live in your head, in notes, or in half-written drafts. Or they come out in a call, in a caption, in a reply—and then disappear.
A content engine (a simple, repeatable system for capturing ideas and turning one thought into multiple assets) can help change that.
Instead of using an idea once, you stretch it. One thought can become a few posts, an email, a short video outline, and a couple of different angles you can come back to later. Not because you’re trying to post more, but because you can get more value out of the thinking you’re already doing.
This guide uses five copy-paste prompts you can use in Copilot to help you turn an idea into multiple pieces of content. Then Microsoft 365 tools can help you draft and refine content as your online presence evolves.
Prompt 1: “Give me 3–5 main content topics I can return to regularly…”
This first Copilot prompt takes the pile of ideas in your head and turns it into a short list of repeatable topics. Think of these as your “home base” topics. They’re the ideas you can talk about from different angles without sounding like you’re repeating yourself.
Copy-paste prompt into Copilot:
“Here’s what I create content about and why:
[1–2 sentences about what you talk about, who it’s for, and the kind of questions or problems you often address].
Based on that, give me 3–5 main content topics I can return to regularly. For each topic, include:
- what it covers (1 sentence)
- 8-10 angles I could take (examples, tips, mistakes, stories, explanations, contrasts)
Keep the wording simple and practical.”
Examples of what Copilot might generate as angles:
- “3 mistakes people make with ___”
- “The checklist I use before ___”
- “A quick example of ___ done well”
- “What I’d do if I was starting over with ___”
Tip: If you’re planning to build a full content engine, consider saving your topics and angles in a Copilot Notebook. Notebooks in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app can help you gather prompts, ideas, and reference material for one topic in a single place, making it easier to return to and expand your content over time.
Prompt 2: “Using these topics, create a simple 4-week plan…”
Now you turn your topics into a short plan you can actually use. Not a huge calendar. Just enough structure so you’re not making decisions from scratch every week.
Copy-paste prompt into Copilot:
“Using these topics: [paste topics], create a simple 4-week plan with 3-4 content ideas per week.
Mix in:
- quick explanations
- short stories or examples
- common mistakes or myths
- how-to breakdowns
Keep each idea clear enough that I could start writing immediately.”
Tip: Want a more realistic month? Add: “Make Week 1 the easiest week (fast posts). Make Week 4 the deepest week (longer posts).”
Prompt 3: “Take this idea and turn it into a short post, a longer post, an email…”
This is the part that turns one idea into several assets. The goal is to stop rewriting the same thought five different ways.
Copy-paste prompt into Copilot:
“Take this idea: [paste one idea]. Turn it into:
- a short written post (5-8 lines)
- a longer written post (10-14 lines)
- an email (subject + 250-400 words)
- a short video outline (hook, 3 points, close)
- a carousel outline (slide 1-8 with slide text)
Keep the meaning the same, just change the format. Use clear, natural language.”
Tip: If it comes out a little generic, follow up with: “Rewrite this with one specific example and fewer general statements.”
Prompt 4: “Write 12 opening lines for this topic…”
Starting is often the hardest part. This prompt gives you several opening lines so you don’t have to write the first sentence from scratch.
Copy-paste prompt into Copilot:
“Write 12 opening lines for this topic: [topic].
Rules:
- sound like a real person
- no hype or exaggeration
- keep them short and specific
- mix questions, statements, and observations.”
Tip: Add a tone note like: “Keep it casual and straightforward. No buzzwords.”

Endings are hard too. This prompt gives you a few ways to wrap up, so you’re not stuck staring at the last line.
Copy-paste prompt into Copilot:
“Give me 8 natural ways to end a piece of content about [topic].
Include options that:
- invite reflection
- ask a question
- suggest a small next step
- point to something I offer (without sounding pushy)
Keep it conversational and simple.”
Tip: You can ask Copilot to review your caption against platform best practices. For example: “Review this caption for Instagram best practices to help drive views.” This can help you adjust length, structure, and calls to action for different platforms.
Keep your content engine organized with Microsoft 365 for creators
Once you’ve run the prompts, Microsoft 365 helps you keep everything in one place so the work doesn’t turn into scattered notes and half-drafts.
- Use Word to draft and refine: clean up the prompt output, shape it into posts/emails/scripts, and save final versions you can reuse.
- Use OneNote as your content library: store your core topics, monthly plan, favorite hooks, and best closers so you can find them fast later.
- Use Outlook to collect ideas: create a “Content” folder, save emails with good questions or feedback, and flag messages that could turn into posts (especially the ones you find yourself answering more than once).
The goal is simple: prompts create the raw material, and Microsoft 365 gives it a home you can maintain.
