Microsoft CityNext to address city resilience at major cities of Europe conference

Cities across the globe are being transformed by technology. With the rise of mobile and cloud technologies and the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), major cities and their citizens are becoming more connected than ever before.

Come to the annual Major Cities of Europe Conference, which takes place in Hamburg, Germany, June 8–10, to learn how to lead your city into this new and connected world with hundreds of city leaders and Microsoft CityNext. Conference participants will tackle a variety of topics, including rethinking e-government; the governance of smart cities; openness and transparency and the role of social media; learning in smart cities; and new technologies such as robots and drones.

Microsoft CityNext partners showcase solutions

Microsoft CityNext is designed to provide people-first solutions to help cities become more productive and efficient by implementing innovative social, mobile, cloud, and data technology solutions. At the conference, Microsoft CityNext will showcase city technology solutions from more than a dozen of their affiliated partners. These partners and their solutions include:

Microsoft CityNext partner, Ireckon BV, will give a presentation on its project for the city of Breda, a municipality in the Netherlands. Ireckon worked with city leaders to develop an IoT solution that links water and sewage plants’ physical sensors and provides real-time data about water flow and asset management.

Microsoft technology director hosts workshop on resilient cities

Rüdiger Dorn, Microsoft’s Director of Technology Strategy, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, will conduct a 40-minute workshop, titled “More Than Smart—What It Takes to Shape a Resilient City,” will include a guided Q&A discussion that shares ideas on how cities can build secure, end-to-end technology solutions.

During the workshop, Dorn will also discuss main topics on city leaders’ minds in 2015, such as transforming to digital cities and they can earn the trust of their citizens when implementing new technology solutions, and the roles that security, privacy, and transparency play in in the process of creating those solutions.

Dorn will also share the importance of managing risk in an increasingly connected world, and why it’s critical for cities to develop a risk-based approach to cybersecurity. As part of that discussion, Dorn will show how the Microsoft Trusted Cloud initiative, based on cybersecurity, privacy, and interoperability, is helping cities drive cloud adoption and address their emerging need for resilience.
