  • Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-powered assistant that helps you work more efficiently by generating content, answering questions, analyzing information, and automating tasks. It combines large language models with your work data from Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 to provide personalized assistance. Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is a web-grounded AI assistant included at no additional cost with eligible Microsoft 365 plans. It also includes Copilot in Outlook and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Customers can use custom agents built by their organization on a metered basis.
     
    When you purchase a Microsoft 365 plan with Copilot, or add a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to an existing subscription, you unlock additional capabilities, including Work IQ, Copilot in Teams and Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, access to Microsoft pre-built agents like Researcher, Analyst, and Facilitator, and the ability to use assistive custom agents at no additional cost. Organizations with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses also gain access to advanced analytics to measure usage, adoption, and business impact.
  • Copilot delivers AI assistance tailored to the Microsoft 365 app. For example, in Word, it helps draft documents, suggest edits, and summarize text. In Excel, it analyzes data, creates charts, and generates insights. In PowerPoint, it helps design presentations by generating outlines and recommending images or layouts. In Outlook, it drafts emails and summarizes lengthy email threads. In Teams, it recaps meetings and highlights action items from chats.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot is built with enterprise-grade security and privacy, using the same controls and permissions that help protect your data in Microsoft 365. Copilot follows your organization’s existing Microsoft 365 security settings. 
     
    Copilot interactions are designed to comply with your tenant’s security and compliance policies, including sensitivity labels and data loss prevention rules. Prompts, responses, and data are encrypted when stored. They aren’t used to train language models, including those used by Microsoft 365 Copilot. Microsoft is committed to privacy and responsible AI practices.
  • Work IQ is the intelligence layer that enriches Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents with an implicit understanding of your work—inside and out. It connects your context, workflows, and relationships to deliver an experience that is built just for you and the flow of your work. Work IQ includes data from multiple sources: Microsoft 365 content and metadata; line of business data ingested through Copilot connectors—and the comprehensive semantic index derived from your Microsoft 365 and line-of-business datasets. Work IQ also includes Copilot Memory to better understand your style, habits, and preferences. The result is a rich experience that is implicitly grounded in the details of your work patterns, relationships, and workflows. It enables Copilot to provide new insights and anticipate future needs and proactively take action to deliver the best results.
  • Agents are AI systems that help individuals and organizations manage tasks and make informed decisions. Using agents within Copilot, you and your business can drive efficiency and get more work done faster. Agents can perform various tasks to assist people and organizations:
    • Retrieve information: Query systems like HR, CRM, or financial databases.
    • Help with basic tasks: Submit expense reports, update CRM systems, create IT help desk tickets.
    • Perform specialized roles: Facilitate meetings, compile research reports, analyze data sets. 
    • Automate processes: Handle financial planning, sales qualification, and supplier communications.
  • You can create simple agents from Microsoft 365 Copilot, by selecting ‘New agent’ from the left pane. This experience allows you to create agents using natural language.
     
    For more advanced scenarios, log in to Copilot Studio, which provides a low-code way to create powerful agents. You’ll start by grounding your agent in your data for knowledge. Then, add actions to your business systems so it can complete tasks. For critical topics, you can design agent flows for more control. Then get testing and iterating.
  • Traditional AI models help individuals be more efficient. AI agents, however, can execute business processes. They range from simple prompt-and-response agents to advanced, fully autonomous agents that can complete entire workflows from start to finish. Agents can think or reason, remember, be trained, and even know when to ask for help. This makes them versatile tools for various business applications.
  • Copilot Studio is the comprehensive tool for building agents. Agents built in Copilot Studio can be deployed across multiple channels—organizations pay only for usage when they select the pay-as-you-go plan. For those licensed for Microsoft 365 Copilot, usage of agents published to Microsoft 365 Copilot is included in their license.

    Once your paid subscription begins, you have a seven-day cancellation window to receive a prorated refund, only paying for what you use. You may cancel your subscription at any time in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Learn how to cancel your Microsoft 365 subscription.
